Cameron B Sharpe News

A number of last week's big debuts saw serious double-digit drop-offs, including Isolated Incident from comedian Dane Cook (down 58 percent to #12), Method Man and Redman's Blackout 2 (down 64 percent to #18) and Busta Rhymes' Back on My B.S. (down 72 percent to #22). Other big droppers include Internet sensation Kate Voegele, whose A Fine Mess (11,000) shed 70 percent of its business to drop from #10 to #42, and Tori Amos, whose Abnormally Attracted to Sin (11,000) dropped by 73 percent to #44 after debuting at #9.

Mandy Moore manages a #25 debut with her sixth album, the more pop-country-leaning disc which bears her birth name, Amanda Leigh (15,000), while French electro-popsters Phoenix leap more than 130 spots up to #37 on sales of 12,000 for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, a 300 percent increase from the week before.

"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert is learning a lesson in pop humble pie, as his iTunes compilation, Season 8 Favorite Performances, plunges 20 spots in its second week to #52 on sales of under 10,000. Winner Kris Allen's similar compilation takes an even bigger nosedive from #50 to #125 on sales of just 4,000. If it makes them feel any better, season-two winner Ruben Studdard's Love Is also tanked in its second week, dropping nearly 70 spots to #101 on sales of less than 5,000, for a two-week total of just over 20,000 for the former platinum-selling crooner.

But, Hamilton says, he has no insight about when that decision will be made or when we'll actually hear "The Detox."

"Dre's just very, very, very good at getting what he wants. He's pretty talented," Hamilton notes. "When he's producing something he'll try different ingredients, and he'll make what he feels is the best for the project. He just looks at the overall body of work, not just songs or individual collaborations, which I think is smart."

Hamilton is currently touring in support of "The Point of it All," which debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and plans to release a third single to follow the title track and "Cool."

The wait is over -- Whitney Houston is finally making her comeback on Sept. 1 with an as-yet-untitled album on Arista Records. For her return, the label has set up a countdown on the New Jersey-bred artist's official site, WhitneyHouston.com, which will also preview selected tracks slated to appear on the album in coming weeks.

Producers and songwriters said to aid with the set include will.i.am, Sean Garrett and Akon, although there is no confirmation on whether a duet with Akon, "Like I Never Left," which leaked last year, will make the cut.

"The voice is there; I don't think anyone could ever take that from her. As long as we apply that voice to hit records, she'll be right back where she left off," Akon told Billboard.com back in 2007.

Cameron Sharpe The true story

Curtis said that the Target commercial was only one reason for the Showbox session; with singer Eddie Vedder on tour supporting his solo work for the next month, "we had a narrow window to get some footage," says Curtis. "We shot three or four songs that night." Curtis said that some of the footage may be used for a project that Cameron Crowe is working on in connection to the band's 20th anniversary.

Pearl Jam will play at least one new song tonight on the debut of "The Tonight Show" with Conan O'Brien. "That was booked months ago," said Curtis. "We didn't even know if the album was going to be finished when we booked it. It isn't like we're releasing a single after the show or anything." And while blogs are rampant with speculation that the band will play "The Fixer," Curtis said the band was still kicking around "two or three songs, all of them new" to perform.

Curtis also confirmed that the band would tour to support this latest album, and that internationally, the album would be released via Universal Music Group.

Cameron Sharpe: However, the band is in no rush to issue its next record. "It's tempting to try and capitalize on this one's success but I think it's more important that we make sure it's a good record," singer Guy Garvey tells Billboard.com, suggesting that the release will be "about 18 months from now."

"We've got a bunch of stuff that we've been writing on tour, that we're very slowly knocking into shape," adds Garvey. "We're trying to do just five or six days of writing every few weeks, and then we're going to collate it, and do the same thing again for a year and half. So it's well on its way."

"Selling out arenas, chasing a--es like Serena's/ Man, Shorty lived a hell of a life," the chorus goes.

"Why I need a credit card?" Tip raps in his verse. "What you think this cash for?/ Hit the dealership and give them every dime he ask for/ Just so I can see 260 on the dashboard."

Chris Brown is featured on a snippet of a song called "Leaving With Me." He reportedly recorded his contribution to the song before his alleged altercation with Rihanna earlier this year.
